American Plum / Prunus americana
The American is a small, hardy native tree (or large shrub) 10–20 feet tall, common in the central/eastern US. It features fragrant white spring blooms, produces edible 1-inch red-to-yellow plums in summer, and forms thickets. Thrives in moist, well-drained soil, but is quite adaptable to different conditions (USDA Zones 3–9).
Excellent for wildlife, it thrives in full sun/part shade and is often used for jellies.
